Hermione aka Hazelbutt

And that one time we had a rabbit

Heather is the rabbit person. I’m not going to claim I know anything about them beyond they are cute and fuzzy. A former foster found this sweet, young lady on the road going to Vacaville and scooped her up. At the time, I had NO connections, who knew that getting a rabbit up to date and ready for adoption would break the bank?

First came finding a foster-the person who found her had promised to foster, but this was a prime example of her not following through. It fell on me to foster her, luckily it was warm, and Heather was there to guide me. Apparently rabbits can’t live off of lettuce and carrots. I remember this phone call as well:

HEATHER! Hermione is sick! She is eating her-

Eating her own poop? Yes they do that, totally normal.

It is NOT normal, but I’ll take your word for it.

Who wants a rabbit?

The weather was starting to turn, so a home was required ASAP. All of our applicants were: children and those who had rabbits that lived less than 5 years. Then, the best application came through for her: an artist, a teacher, a VERY experienced rabbit owner. After less than 10 minutes on the phone, I knew this was her person.

Fast Forward

I still get updates on this funny bunny! She is queen of the house and turns out, she is deaf! I am incredibly grateful that her mom knows what she is doing, this girl will never have fear or loneliness, because her family keeps her safe.
